I am an American who was born and raised in North Miami Beach, Florida. I have been living in Turin, Italy since September 2009. My life has been enriched in many ways through the people I have met here. At the same time, most people are very curious when they meet me and want to know more about my hometown…and ask me if CSI Miami truly represents my city. Oh, the power of TV!

I am also a musician and Turin is a wonderful city for live music: classical, folk, and jazz to name but a few. I saw Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” in its entirety for the first time only last year. I’ve met and seen some wonderful jazz artists such as Dave Liebman with Quest, Benny Golson, Tom Harrell, Curtis Fuller, and Don Byron. One of my favorite places to hear live jazz is Jazz Club Torino.

Hello Rachel! I just found your blog. I have been living in Turin for three months from Minneapolis and will be here for another three months. I am excited to see what advice you have on eating here in Turin! Anything I just HAVE to eat/drink before I leave? I’ve had the hot chocolate (or as my friend calls it, chocolate soup!), gianduiotti and I have been to Fiorio’s. A presto!

    • Hello Sara! Thanks for writing. Well, the first place on my list is Pastificio Defilippis on Via Lagrange. I had lunch there the other day…have been wanting to write an article about them but haven’t been able to just yet. I hope to go there again next week for lunch.

One of my favorite places for pizza is Tre da Tre on Via Verdi close to RAI…they have much more than pizza 🙂

I’m doing a school project about Latino immigrants in Italy and how they’ve adapted their food culture to the local country. Do you know anything about immigrants from Latin America who have migrated to Italy, particularly Turin? Even names of Latino churches, centers or restaurants would be helpful! Please email me if you see this at kirbybarth16@gmail.com. Thank you!!
